The first time I can consciously remember hearing about the producer, Sounwave was back in 2011 when I watched a video posted by Top Dawg Entertainment on YouTube. The video was revolved around a studio session that held the great minds of Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave & more. At this moment, I learned of the talent Sounwave withholds. In regards to the song “Hol’ Up” off of Kendrick Lamar’s album “Section.80”, Pharrell Williams said to Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave, & the rest of the world, “I love all that Jazz shit that y’all have in your music. That’s the shit man, do not lose… who’s the producers? (Kendrick points at Sounwave, Pharrell then acknowledges & shakes hands with the young producer) very good work my friend”. With the legendary producer’s endorsement, I knew Sounwave & K.Dot would breakthrough to stardom. Now, four years later, the two continue to work together only to bring the fans bigger & better music. While looking at the tracklist for “To Pimp a Butterfly”, the song “Alright” jumped at me because I saw next to it, “Produced by Pharrell Williams & Sounwave. My initial thought was, wow, we’re finally going to hear the collab we all deserve to hear from one of Top Dawg Entertainment’s masterful producers. With “Alright” being one of the most successful songs off of the album, it is safe to say that this dream collaboration surpassed the hype.
